How a ddos works:
1. They get your IP
Skype:
Phishing:
2. Fire away captain
How to protect yourself:
Step 1: Get a fresh IP
Step 2: Protect it
Your IP address is revealed to anything you connect to over the internet. When you click a link the server sees the IP that is requesting the information and saves it. Other, generally benign, websites do this as well. Do not visit other guild's websites or go into other mumbles. Administrators of either can see all of your shit. Arenajunkie's mods were actually caught selling IP's of top PvPers years ago.
Skype is the biggest issue here but people absolutely refuse to move to a superior and more secure program. I use Skype and would not turn of my main means of communication to raid. To keep using skype you need to first remove anything tied to you from the Skype account's information. DO NOT make your skype account name "Notvidas" "Vidasisgay", etc. It cannot include any of your in game name's, irl names, anything related to you at all. If you have an old mmo champion account with a handle you like to use, don't fucking use it. Make a NEW skype with the account name of something like ilikedogs999 and when you set the display name on it, follow these same rules. Make a new email address for this skype as well. I have found Twitch streamer's IPs by searching Skype for their paypal email.
It is also good practice to proxy your skype. If you don't do this you simply have to trust everyone you have on your skype. Which is an option but you're relying on your own judgement there. It's your call. Proxying puts another computer between your skype and the internet. Keep in mind if you proxy your PC and then connect on your phone to your home wifi, you're fucked. That Skype will permanently have your IP associated with it on revolvers. If you want to do this use either a free or paid SOCKS5 proxy(google.com nigga). Here is where you put in the info:
Now that you should be confident that you won't leak your IP, you'll need a new one. This varies based on your ISP. They will either lease your modem(NOT YOUR ROTUER YOUR FUCKING MODEM THEY'RE DIFFERENT) an IP or they will lease whatever is attached to your modem an IP. I use Road Runner and they do it based on what is connected to the modem. First, get your IP address and write it down.
Second, get your IP address and write it down.
Third, did you actually fucking write it down? Holy shit please just do it.
Google.com -> what is my IP.
then MAKE A .TXT FILE WITH IT AND WRITE IT DOWN AGAIN
Obviously get off your old skype at this point, uninstall it on your phone(when you sign out on android you don't really sign out). Your router has a MAC address, that is it's unique hardware identifier. If your ISP is like mine(roadrunner), you need a new MAC address to get a new IP. To test this, shut off your modem for a few minutes and connect your computer(any computer) to the modem DIRECTLY and turn the modem back on. Once the internet comes back up Google.com -> what is my IP. If it changed you're good. You need to change the MAC address of your router at this point because we know that's how you get it a new IP. Go to your router settings in your web browser(same place you go to set up your wifi password) and change the MAC.
For example here is mine
Just fuck with the settings till you figure it out.
If you don't get a new IP from plugging in the computer directly, you need to try something else. You can disconnect your modem overnight and hope the lease for the IP expires. Disconnect it for as long as you can, hook it back up, google.com -> what is my IP. If it changed you're good. Some ISPs say you have a dynamic IP(changing IP) but it's almost impossible to get a new IP with these providers. I believe Cablevision is like this. Actually I have no idea if Cablevision is like that. None what so ever. In which case you need a new modem. Go to your ISP's office and exchange that shit. If that doesn't work fucking ask Meikster or some shit idk he's like a computer wizard
stop getting hit offline it's your own fault.
